The Svenska Dagbladet entrance BENCHES IN SOFT CONCRETE. Six benches made from Soft Concrete are located at the entrance of Svenska Dagbladet, a major newspaper. Two of them are bright blue and four of them are dark grey. The benches are designed by Marie Pålstam at I-form Architects. Marie got in contact with Johans Golv in 2002, and she brought a drawing of a bench with wrinkled, conical supports. In our workshop, a prototype was made and accepted, and then the benches were manually produced. Now the six benches offer a place of rest for those who visit the entrance. Unique blue colourThe blue colour has its own story. It could not have been done in ordinary concrete because the ultra marine pigment is attacked by ordinary cement, which is highly alkaline. But the Soft Concrete uses a less aggressive cement, so called high alumina cement, that makes the beautiful blue colour possible. The benches in the press and at exhibitionThe benches have caught attention in the press, e.g. Elle Interiör. They have also been lent to a special exhibition about gardening – a project that was not quite easy, since the benches weigh 150 kg each. |
